Getting Attala County Court Records
Go to the specific court, not a general county office. Tim Pinkard, the Circuit Clerk, holds Circuit civil and criminal filings. Taylor Casey, the Chancery Clerk, keeps Chancery case material plus separate recorder records. Justice Court and Kosciusko Municipal Court run their own channels. Eligible Circuit and Chancery dockets are reachable through PAMEC. Clerk offices also offer free electronic viewing during business hours under MEC procedures. Visit the counter when remote access falls short. Go there too if certification is needed or the court itself is unclear.
When you contact an office, give the court. Add the case number if known, an approximate date, the party role, and the exact item wanted. A docket sheet is an event index. An order, judgment, certified copy, or transcript is a different product entirely. The county publishes no standard mail request form. Ask the court-specific clerk about current mail or electronic delivery, cost estimate, payment, and certification steps before sending money or personal data.
- Identify the court named on the papers: Circuit, Chancery, Justice, Kosciusko Municipal, Youth, or federal Greenville.
- State whether the request is for a docket sheet, filed document, ordinary copy, certified copy, or transcript.
- Use PAMEC for eligible Circuit or Chancery material, or ask the clerk counter about electronic viewing and copy options.
- Supply the narrowest identifiers and request a cost estimate when search, review, redaction, certification, or mailing is involved.
- Confirm whether the result is an ordinary copy or a clerk-certified copy before relying on it for a formal need.
Note: Tell Attala offices the court and record type. A broad request for every county record slows things down.
Attala Court Record Products
Four different products all get called an Attala County court record. They do different jobs. A MEC docket sheet lists dated filings, events, settings, flags, and status. The filing or order behind an event is its own document. Certified copies carry clerk certification where that is required. A transcript is the court reporter's word-for-word account. One caution: a Justice Court nCourt payment confirmation does not automatically count as a certified disposition. Pick the product first. That way you never ask a records office for something it does not keep.
| Product | What it supplies | Starting custodian |
|---|---|---|
| Docket sheet | Chronological filings, events, settings, flags, and status | Circuit or Chancery MEC/PAMEC, or the correct clerk |
| Filed document | A complaint, indictment, motion, order, judgment, or notice | The clerk for the filing court |
| Certified copy | Eligible record authenticated by the clerk | The court-specific custodian |
| Transcript | Record of spoken proceedings | Court reporter or clerk for ordering direction |
Types of Attala County Court Records
Attala County court records split along jurisdiction lines. Circuit files cover civil pleadings, criminal indictments, motions, judgments, executions, and process. Chancery files handle estates, guardianships, divorces, custody, adoptions, property disputes, and equity matters. Justice Court holds lower-court civil cases, traffic, DUI, misdemeanors, ordinance matters, and initial appearances. Kosciusko Municipal Court keeps city-limit traffic and municipal records. A federal case from Attala lands in the Northern District of Mississippi's Greenville Division. That court sits outside the state MEC system.
- Circuit docket sheets, indictments, civil pleadings, motions, orders, and judgments
- Chancery domestic, estate, guardianship, equity, and related case files
- Justice Court traffic, DUI, misdemeanor, ordinance, civil, and initial-appearance records
- Kosciusko Municipal Court citation, arraignment, trial, payment, and appeal material
- Separate Chancery recorder instruments such as deeds, mortgages, liens, and lis pendens
Attala Circuit Judgment Records
The Attala Circuit Clerk keeps judgments and executions. The office also holds Circuit civil and criminal pleadings, indictments, motions, process, and jury-related records. So any request naming a Circuit judgment or execution belongs with that office. That holds even if the event first surfaced on the Fifth Circuit MEC docket. Name the court, case number, and the exact judgment or execution. That keeps a targeted ask from turning into a general file search.
A docket entry only reports filing activity. It is not the same as the judgment or execution record itself. Identify the event first through PAMEC or local electronic viewing where that fits. Then confirm with the Circuit Clerk whether the filed document is public and whether an ordinary or certified copy fits the need. No fixed certification fee is published for Attala. The office will supply the current amount and payment method.
Attala Chancery Cases and Instruments
The Chancery Clerk wears two hats. As clerk of the Sixth Chancery District, the office keeps domestic, estate, guardianship, land, and equity cases. As public recorder, it holds a second set too: deeds, mortgages, construction and condominium liens, federal tax liens, lis pendens, and military discharges. A single property dispute can generate both a Chancery docket and a recorded instrument. Those take separate requests. A MEC case search will not necessarily return every land record.
The Chancery Clerk's official office page is the right starting point. It serves either family of records. Say whether you need a court case, a docket event, or a recorder instrument. Staff can then point you to the correct index.
What Attala Court Records Contain
An Attala County court record is more than its latest status line. A docket sheet usually orients you to the court, division, case number, filing date, case style, party roles, attorneys, event dates, documents, settings, flags, disposition, and closure. Behind it, the file may hold pleadings, signed orders, exhibits, or other restricted items. MEC flags can signal a workflow condition or an access limit. They do not decide what actually happened at a hearing.
| Case number | A lookup anchor used with the correct court and filing date. |
|---|---|
| Case style and roles | Identifies parties and their procedural roles. |
| Docket sheet | The dated sequence of filings, notices, settings, and events. |
| Orders and judgments | Filed rulings read with the related event. |
| Flags and access status | Signals such as sealed, stayed, minor-child, or guardian workflow. |
| Transcript | A separate reporter record, not a substitute for the docket sheet. |
Free Attala Clerk Viewing
You do not need a PAMEC account to read an Attala County court docket electronically. The Mississippi Electronic Court System administrative procedures let anyone view filings free. Viewing happens at a clerk's office terminal during business hours. Copies, though, may carry charges. This route works well if you skipped PAMEC registration. It also helps when you are unsure which court holds the case, or want to know whether a docket entry has a public document behind it. Sealed and confidential records stay closed either way.
The Attala County Circuit Clerk sits at 100 Courthouse, Suite 1, Kosciusko, Mississippi 39090. The office is reachable at 662-289-1471. The Chancery Clerk is at 230 West Washington Street, Kosciusko, Mississippi 39090, 662-289-2921. Call ahead with the court, the rough year, and the format you want. The counters handle record viewing; parking and terminal logistics are not published details.
Attala Certified Copies and Fees
A certified copy is a record the clerk authenticates as true. Formal purposes often demand one. A printed PAMEC page or a payment receipt will not do. Attala County posts no certified-copy fee schedule or transcript rate sheet. So the price is not fixed in public view. Name the document you need. Then ask the clerk's office directly about current copy, certification, search, redaction, mailing, and payment charges.
| Item | Officially located amount or rule |

Older Attala Court Records
Not every older Attala County case lives in the electronic system. Sixth Chancery went live on MEC March 27, 2017. Fifth Circuit followed on November 21, 2019. Neither date proves the older files were migrated. For deep history, the Mississippi Department of Archives and History holds Attala County historical collections, with material reaching into the early twentieth century. The Secretary of State series covers nineteenth-century records. Treat these as archival leads, not live docket databases.
Before hunting in an archive, ask the clerk whether the office still holds the file, whether you can view it electronically, or whether a repository has taken custody. Give an approximate year and the record type. The statewide retention schedule offers context, but it cannot tell you whether any single Attala case was destroyed or transferred.

Attala Court Record Access Rules
Access to Attala County court records comes in layers. The Mississippi Public Records Act favors inspection. But court records also answer to court-access procedures and their own restrictions. PAMEC grants subscribers a view of eligible Circuit and Chancery material. Justice Court and Kosciusko Municipal records sit with separate custodians. Youth Court files are confidential. A sealed item may be blocked outright or show only a limited docket header.
Key rules:
Miss. Code §§25-61-1 and 25-61-2 support inspection unless an exception applies.
Miss. Code §25-61-7 permits actual search, review, duplication, and mailing costs.
Miss. Code §§25-61-11 through 25-61-13 preserve exemptions and establish access-dispute routes.
MEC administrative procedures govern remote PAMEC access and local electronic viewing.
Never try to push past a permission message. Instead, ask the clerk's office whether a non-restricted docket sheet or a certified public copy exists and what procedure governs access. A blank result can mean the wrong court, a legacy file, a restricted case, or an unindexed filing.
